Rebuilding A Community Garden

Sometimes, the best plan is a fresh start. Last fall, the rotting bed frames at the Madeleine Fuqua Garden were removed, and the soil leveled. Weeds had overrun the garden to the point starting over was the only option. The garden was in dire shape.

And the community came to help!

On April 15th, over 20 volunteers gathered to rebuild the Madeleine Fuqua Garden. We wish to thank Valent Biosciences for sending a team of volunteers and for others in the community, like a group from The Chapel, who found us through social media.

The first task was to assemble 20 metal bed frames. Everyone got to work in teams and the race was on to see who could build the fastest. Team Chapel won!

A while later several beds are nearing completion

Once the frames were assembled, volunteers moved them into place and filled them with compost donated by DK Organics in Lake Bluff.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the event and those behind the scenes who worked to make this event a success. A garden can only grow as well as the love and attention it receives. On this day, it begins anew to serve the community once again.
